Southern Vectis is recruiting the next generation of engineers through a paid apprenticeship programme offering qualifications, real-world skills and career progression opportunities.
Southern Vectis, owned by the Go-Ahead Group, is calling on aspiring engineers to apply for its industry-leading engineering apprenticeship programme.
Applications are open until 22nd March 2026, with the first intake set to begin in July 2026.
The programme is aimed at those seeking more than just a job, offering the opportunity to join a team responsible for delivering a safe and reliable bus service to thousands of Islanders every day.
From day one, apprentices will begin developing practical, transferable skills while working with advanced zero-emission technology. Successful applicants will initially study complex mechanical and electrical systems in both classroom and real-world environments before joining Southern Vectis depots for hands-on training — all while earning a wage and working towards a recognised qualification.
The apprenticeship will be delivered in partnership with S&B Automotive Academy, one of the UK’s leading automotive apprenticeship providers, and will also include placements with other Go-Ahead partners.
Engineers at Southern Vectis currently maintain more than 90 buses across the Isle of Wight, with a further 31 zero-emission electric buses due to arrive shortly as part of continued investment in greener transport.
Across the UK and Ireland, Go-Ahead supports around 900 engineers and operates dedicated engineering training centres in London and Manchester, providing clear development pathways for emerging talent while continuing to upskill its existing workforce.
Go-Ahead says it is committed to removing barriers to entry by offering substantial financial support to successful applicants, including funded driving lessons and driving tests. Dedicated mentors will also guide recruits throughout the programme.
Ed Wills, Managing Director of Southern Vectis, has said:
“We’re looking for the best of the best to join our engineering teams. This apprenticeship is a great opportunity for people who want to earn while they learn and develop skills that support long-term careers.
“This investment from Go-Ahead has created an excellent opportunity for people considering a career in engineering and we are committed to broadening access for under-represented groups — including women — into engineering roles.”

Just need multi meter as most going over to the net zero bollocks that’s electric..all grant funded by the government..
It was all sounding so positive until the comment that indicates they aren’t really looking for the “best of the best” but perhaps are looking to slot in lesser able candidates based on Woke principles.
“we are committed to broadening access for under-represented groups — including women — into engineering roles”
on the contrary,.. the statement suggests that they ARE looking for the best of the best,.. irrespective of their background..
it sounds to me like you have a problem with women (or anyone else who doesn’t fit the out-dated, bigotted, image of engineers) in engineering ??
