South Wight Neighbourhoods Policing Team (NPT) has launched another Policing Priorities Survey for the Sandown, Shanklin, Lake and Ventnor areas.
In November 2021, a similar survey was conducted in order to enable the team to better understand the issues directly impacting residents, and where the public wanted to see local resources prioritised.
Based on the responses received, South Wight NPT have been focusing on reducing Anti-Social Behaviour whilst targeting violent offences and drug and alcohol-related harm.
Operation Spider was created to achieve this aim, which has already seen success in steadily reducing ASB in the area.
Sergeant Ben Sharland said:
“We acknowledge that this is just the beginning of a longer road and we are committed to continuing the work to sustain this reduction and continue to tackle these issues in the Bay.
“Statistics and figures are only a small part of the picture and it is really important for us to hear your voices, feedback and concerns, so we are releasing a Policing Priorities Survey for 2023 which will remain open until 12 March 2023.
“If you live or work in Sandown, Shanklin, Lake and Ventnor then please take the time to have your say on local policing. Thank you for your continued support.”

So now the police want us to fill out a survey on how they should do there jobs, thats priceless
Less surveys, more policing. It’s a no-brainer really.
Surely ALL crime should be a priority for the police?
‘seen success in steadily reducing ASB in the area’ Really? Where on earth do that get the idea that anti-social behaviour is being reduced? I guess it’s simply based on a lower number of arrests made, rather than what is actually happening on the streets?
If the police got out of their offices and cars and PATROLLED the streets, there would be no need for surveys etc because they would know what was going on.
How often do any of us see a police office walking the streets? If you do see one, you do a double-take because it’s so rare.
Yet another survey to be told the blindingly obvious. Excellent use of Police budget, Ms Jones.
Stop picking on the alcoholics whom 99% the time are just minding their own business and conterplating life, stop picking on the easy targets and go and find some real Criminals.
