‘They are absolutely killing Sandown’ – those are the words of 1 local resident who has caught wind of plans by Two Saints to create a house in multiple occupation (HMO) on Avenue Road in the town.
Builders have apparently already moved in on the site and are beginning to turn what was before 2 houses into an HMO with as many as 10 rooms.
Due to the size of the building and the need for internal renovations only, the works are already being undertaken without the thought of public consultation or liaison.
One disgruntled resident has told Island Echo:
“They are trying to get around it, we have had no notification.
“It’s just overkill, they are absolutely killing Sandown. We’ve already had some issues with the facilities on Fort Street and Yarborough House.”
This isn’t the first time that the charity has caused friction in the town however after their attempt to secure a HMO on Leed Street back in 2021 was thrown out after it received multiple objections from local residents.
Back then claims that the building would see crime rates in the area increase and that tourists and visitors to the town would be put off by the HMO were just some of the reasons that Two Saints had to give in.
The charity, that helps offer support to people who are homeless, vulnerable or at risk of becoming homeless have been approached for a comment, but at the time of publication haven’t replied.
perhaps these hand wringing do gooders should build HMO’s next door to their own homes – I bet these two saints jokers don’t have any junkie s cumbags living next door to them, but are quite happy to impose it on others
maybe they need to have the buildings near their own personal residences purchased and filled with the same people that they are trying to impose on others.
There are many clearly NON locals in Sandown and Shanklin wandering about on phones in the day time, so likely not working,imo just here for the free ride, and imo many will add to the kindness and free home and cash from benefits by turning to crime.

what does need to happen is all the hand wringers, like smiffy/timms etc that post on these message boards,should have illegal immigrants housed next door to them, along with all the junkies/alco’s and spongers that they virtue signal about.

I agree that this HMO will bring major problems to the area of Avenue Road! However… As a resident of Avenue Road, I have not seen 1 migrant or foreigner cause ANY problems!! I hate to say it and upset all the racist nationalists (shame on you all) but… The drink, drug and asbo problems on this island are in the majority caused by white British people!!! Not a surprise. Blackpool has thousands of HMOs. Operators get the properties dirt cheap cos no-one wants to buy in these areas.
Sandown is on its knees and needs all the help it can get. What it doesn’t need are MORE HMOs bringing crime and antisocial behaviour to the town. No public consultation, posts being removed from Facebook. What the hell is going on IOW Council? You are all arseholes as far as I’m concerned. Why Sandown all the time? Open some HMOs in Bembridge, Seaview, Cowes……..oh no, because some of you reside in these towns don’t you and you won’t have them on your doorstep. I saw two women sitting on a bench on Broadway yesterday afternoon at 1:30pm drinking Stella Artois. When I passed again later in the afternoon, there were empty cans and a carrier bag just left under the bench.
These are the types poor Sandown have to contend with. NO MORE. House the alcoholics and druggies somewhere else. Like the mainland! Get them working and in a job rather than they just take from society.
What didyoudo with the bag? Did you pop it in the nearest bin. Lead by example did you? Sometimes people need to be shown the way. A lack of basic social skills often comes from poor parenting or role modelling. I really do hope you did the right thing. If not for the culprits but for the greater good and thus helping strengthen the foundations of a generally good community.
the correct thing would have been to drag the deadbeat alcos back to the mess they made and force them to clear it up -then deprive them of all and every benefit until they demonstrate that they are willing to work for their money

Surely they can see how successful Fort street has been to know the inevitable problems that will arise building others in the town, all day long the same group’s drinking alcohol all day long on the seafront and stealing anything they can get their hands on from local shops, police turn a blind eye and are not bothered, why would any tourist want to come to Sandown

I have completed a complaints form that can be found on the Council Website and submitted it to the council.
Totally underhanded. No public consultation or opinion whatsoever. Because they know very well the good people of Sandown will object, as I have done. Put your opinions on this matter in writing to the Council, complaining on here is not enough.
I’ve been coming to the island for many years, from the early 70s and still visit every year, sometimes more than once and Sandown is still one of our favourite towns. Much like all the real locals we have seen the decline in recent years more than ever before and this is really sad to see.
The people in power need to release that if you look after Sandown, Sandown will help look after the Isle of Wight… this was and still could be a major seaside town. After all this is a major part of the island and if people read what’s going on here, it won’t be just Sandown they won’t be visiting, it will be the whole island!
This is what happens when the NIMBY lot stop all and any development. They kill the town and the only thing can get built are these abominations. Good work NIMBY lot, you made your bed, time to sleep in it. Maybe if the NIMBY crowd allowed real development this would never have happened.
