Rubbish seen smouldering in the back of a bin lorry on a residential street in Newport has prompted a response from Isle of Wight firefighters this lunchtime (Friday).
3 appliances from Newport and Ryde have been mobilised to Clifford Street, off Drill Hall Road, following reports of smoke coming from the rear section of a Council refuse collection vehicle.
A hose reel jet is being used to dowse the fire, which is contained.
The incident began at around 13:10.
The narrow road is currently blocked whilst firefighters deal with the incident.
The fire has been extinguished, that has caution. Firefighters are following the bin lorry back to Lyn bottom waste recycling centre where the collective rubbish can be unloaded and any hotspots damp and down.
UPDATE @ 14:01 – The fire has been extinguished, but as a precaution, Firefighters are following the bin lorry back to Lynnbottom waste and recycling centre where the collected rubbish can be unloaded and any hotspots dampened down.
The incident at Clifford Street has now concluded.
Some stupid idiot put something in the bin they shouldn’t have? Some people really don’t have a brain?
Crush a lithium battery and see what happens….
That’s why batteries should be disposed of in the correct manner?
Numpty’s need incentives, offer cash back
on returning old batteries etc, bet many persons
would return them correctly.
If you put batteries out for recycling in a clear plastic bag so the operatives can see what they are…….they leave the bag on your drive saying they are not allowed to recycle batteries. Is it any wonder that people then simply put them in with their rubish?
You are 110% correct, the binmen cherry pick what
they collect.
Being back Stan Ogden and Eddie Yates
they done a marvellous job.
I have crushed a grape, that is fun
Lol.
Probably disposable Vapes are too blame!
