32-year-old Danielle Tuffrey has been charged with drink driving, driving without insurance and driving without a valid test certificate following a crash involving a Police van in Sandown last night (Thursday).
As previously reported by Island Echo, at around 19:15 a Police van was being driven along Fitzroy Street as part of a normal patrol when it crashed into the side of a Mini One. The driver of the Mini, now known to be Tuffrey, failed to stop at a give way line as she emerged from Leed Street, causing the Ford Transit cell van to crash into the side of the vehicle.
Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that 2 Police officers were taken to hospital but have since been discharged.
A man in his 20s, who was a passenger in the Mini, was taken to hospital with serious injuries but they are not deemed to be life-threatening.
Danielle Tuffrey, of Atherley Park Way in Shanklin, has been bailed to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 4th February.
Courts need to get tougher with uninsured drivers, drunk or drugged drivers and those with no Licence or Test Certificates, the passenger is seriously injured because of her total disregard for the law. The Police van is needing costly repair and the Police officers were put at risk of serious injury.
Bans and fines do not deter these people, actual or suspended custodial sentences are needed.
These drivers are potential killers.
That’ll be the day when the courts get tougher It will happen, because it must, but I doubt we” see it in our lifetime.
The passenger should be charged with aidding and abetting the drunk woman, he must have known what she had been drinking before getting into her car…
No insurance or mot, that says it all, this woman has no respect for the law or respect to public safety, her passenger is just has bad…
Yes another muppet, sorry two muppets, drunk and car not legal what a surprise.
No insurance , no MOT, and too drunk to even stop at a junction, staggering self entitlement and arrogance of this moron. lucky it was a nice big van that got in her way and not a kid on a bike.
No better way for a criminal to get caught than by bumping into the local boys in blue.
Hopefully they throw the book at her.
So many crimes all at once.
I suppose her defence will come out with some poor excuse.
Drink driving there is no excuse for, and the rest of the crimes are unforgivable.
Nothing but a custodial sentence will suffice. Getting fed up hearing a slap on the wrist will do
This drunk committed to many crimes and also injured Police.
Only 1 place for this person, behind bars, could have killed persons.
Ha ha Karma, thankfully it wasn’t a motorcycle.
hope they give her prison could have kill some one ,what’s up with people
Or maybe a driver awareness course
The island Roads are some of the most UNSAFE in the country.
Nearly everyday due to McDonalds being in a ridiculous location at Ryde and having zero traffic management there will be a series accident one time.
“It is a disaster waiting too happen”
I have contacted IW Council and Bob Seely on numerous occasions
But to be honest they are clueless and useless!
On a main road out of town next to a supermarket?? Yes totally stupid location. Where would you have put it? The middle of union street?
What exactly to you expect Bob Seely to say? Sorry Ronald your going to have to lift the building up and put it somewhere else?
There’s never a copper around when you need one …….. Oh hold on a second
People makes mistakes, she will get punished for it and have a criminal record, I’m sure she feels bloody awful, give the girl a break
