Shanklin United Reformed Church on the Isle of Wight has unveiled a special Easter display charting the events of Holy Week, as part of a series of activities leading up to Easter Sunday.
The display, located in the church foyer, takes visitors on a visual journey beginning with Palm Sunday and following key moments including the Last Supper, the trial and crucifixion of Jesus, through to the discovery of the empty tomb.
It also depicts the story of Jesus meeting his followers on the road to Emmaus, where they recognised him after he broke bread, reinforcing the belief in his resurrection.
One visitor to the display commented:
“I hadn’t realised all these things were connected.”
The installation will be available to view during Messy Church on Saturday and will remain in place throughout Passion Week.
As part of wider Easter commemorations, members of several local congregations will take part in a cross walk through Shanklin on Good Friday (3rd April), stopping at various churches to read passages from the Bible recounting the death of Jesus.
Events will conclude with a sunrise service at the bottom of Hope Road on Easter Sunday, where worshippers will gather to celebrate the resurrection.
