Shanklin Town Council has approved thousands of pounds in event grants, including for one of the Island’s most celebrated Summer carnivals.
At a meeting on Thursday night, councillors gave the go ahead to funding applications for both Shanklin Carnival 2024/25 and Shanklin Carnival Christmas Fair.
The amount suggested on the agenda was £5,500 and at least that will be given.
This year’s main Shanklin summer carnival on 7th August saw a parade with floats, dancers and music starting at Popham Road, near Big Mead Park, with thousands watching the procession. Shanklin Illuminated Carnival took place on 10th August.
The Shanklin Carnival Christmas Fair will take place tomorrow (Saturday) at Shanklin Methodist Church from 10:00-16:00.
Attractions will include a tombola, raffle and gift stall as well as a chance to meet santa, with tea, coffee and cake on offer.
I wish Shanklin Town Council would stop the
Stupid B’stards parking outside the takeaway
establishments in Regent Street.
With cars parked on the correct side of the street
It makes it awkward for van drivers to get along the
street freely.
What on earth has this to do with Shanklin Town Council? They have absolutely no jurisdiction over on-street parking. If it bothers you that much & the cars/vans etc. are causing an obstruction; Report them to parking enforcement and/or the police. Shanklin Town Council will not be able to do anything about it.
The cop shop is up the road and they have
done nothing about Double side of the
Street parking.
It is narrow, a fire engine would not get through
easily.
There are NO rules on the island
IW Council are useless they should get
Island Roads to install metal bollards outside
the takeaways.
Exactly, The Police & the IW Council do nothing but you expect Shanklin Town Council to succeed even though they have no powers to do so!
Why not ask the Milky Bar Kid if he can help?
Sadiq Khan would get the problem solved
once and for all.
He don’t mess about.
I for one do not agree in my council giving the carnival a grant of any amount When we the tax payers find it harder each year to afford to pay my share.
If the carnival does not pay for itself they should consider if its worth going on.in its current form.
The Shanklin Town Council have a fund for grants but it generally goes to the same people/groups every year and it’s always £5k. Look in the records and you will see the same sum for quite a few causes such as the carnival and the band etc. helps to have a councillor on the organising committee. Should be a grant if they get it very year.
