Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club’s Daisy Faithfull has claimed gold for Great Britain in the Women’s Eight at the World University Games in Germany.
The prestigious event, held in the Rhine-Ruhr valley, is one of the largest sporting competitions globally, featuring over 10,000 student athletes from more than 150 countries. Facing a field packed with top crews from the USA, Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Germany, the GB Women’s Eight delivered a strong performance.
In a thrilling final, the British crew led from the start and managed to hold off a late surge from the Netherlands to secure victory. Daisy, representing the University of London, underwent a demanding trials process over several months to earn her seat in the top university boat and the chance to compete for her country.
Her achievement is made even more impressive given the long-term injuries and setbacks she faced during her early university years.
Garry Walters, Club Captain at Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club, commented:
“Daisy joined the club when she was 13 and it has been great to track her progress and success for the club and beyond.
“To have further international representation is truly inspiring for us all at Shanklin, encouraging everyone to aim high.”

Well done Lionesses a great achievement.
