A Shanklin hotel is at the heart of a new approach to addiction recovery on the Isle of Wight, as Get Into Recovery CIC officially launches at Somerton Lodge with support from the Equilibrium Project and a visit from Isle of Wight MP Joe Robertson.
The initiative is being led by John and Anne Elford at Somerton Lodge Hotel, which now hosts trauma-informed programmes, peer-led support, and clinical detoxification services for individuals and families affected by addiction.
Get Into Recovery CIC, a newly formed community interest company, has secured National Lottery funding to deliver the project. The service combines a restorative residential experience with professional, evidence-based care. Founder John Elford, who has been alcohol-free for over 20 years, has designed the stays around his Quintiva Framework – a model focused on neuroscience, behaviour, emotional health, spirituality, and physical wellbeing.
The Equilibrium Project, led by Charlie Bell and Vicki Haworth of the Isorropia Foundation CIC, is providing CQC-registered detox services, enabling participants to begin recovery safely under clinical supervision. The residential stays run for 1 week or longer and include a full year’s access to Elford’s online recovery platform.
International music artist Nick Bracegirdle, known as Chicane, is supporting the project and praised its unique approach. He said:
“As someone who has had direct experience of recovery settings, I can confidently say Somerton Lodge is a place like no other.
“The blend of lived experience and clinical expertise creates something genuinely new. For too long, recovery settings have relied on outdated methods – Somerton Lodge is changing that.”

Isle of Wight MP Joe Robertson met with the team earlier this year and welcomed the launch of the initiative. Joe Robertson, MP, has said:
“It was great to visit Somerton Lodge and hear from John Elford about their exciting plans to expand recovery work across the Island.
“I look forward to seeing this vital project grow.”
To mark its official launch, Get Into Recovery is offering discounted residential rates for Isle of Wight residents for selected weeks over the next 3 months.
