A yellow weather warning for strong winds across the Isle of Wight on Saturday has been issued by local forecasters IW Met Service.
A spell of severe gale force west to southwesterly winds will develop during the early hours of Saturday morning with gusts of up to 50mph expected in central and eastern areas of the Island. Up to 65mph is expected in more western parts and possibly up to 70mph on some of the more exposed coasts and hills.
The wind will gradually turn more into the west to northwest as the morning goes on and will maintain its strength until mid Saturday afternoon.
It’s likely that there will be tree debris on the roads due to many of the trees now being in full leaf – this will make things very slippery in some places. There is also the potential for cross-Solent travel delays/cancellations.
The warning is in force from 23:00 tomorrow (Friday) until 16:00 on Saturday.
