A baby seal that washed up on Yaverland beach on Saturday in very poor physical condition has sadly been euthanised.
The seal – that washed up on the beach at around 15:00 – was suffering from dehydration and severe mouth rot when it ended up on the sand near Yaverland Café.
Laying on the shore, helpless and afraid, the seal was crowded around by a large group of people who were visiting the beach at the time.
Trained marine animal medics were sent to the scene, making the decision to take the seal to a local veterinary practice.
Sadly, as a result of its illness and health problems, the seal was humanely euthanised.

Glad for the good management of the seal’s humane euthanasia. Unlike my mother and so many others, who’s end of life suffering was prolonged because of the lack of clarity on such an issue and fear of prosecution. We who witnessed it are now scarred for life. My mother was entitled to the same rights as the seal, but denied it paranoia and lack of understanding by those in power.
well said jack.100% agree
Fully understand Jack. Our family had similar and it is disgusting how we treat live decent people, but that is not the innocent animals fault of course.
I am glad the Seal had it’s life taken as nicely as possible, as could so easily have ended up at the hands of the low life chavs who delight in making innocent things suffer because ‘they’ are unwanted and messed up in the head.
Spot on. The god botherers and so called human rights idiots would rather we all suffered excruciating pain rather than being able to have a dignified ending. Switzerland have the right idea.
I think it’s terrible!
