Mountbatten Isle of Wight have been left counting the costs of a break in and theft at their charity warehouse in Newport overnight.
Persons unknown smashed a window to gain access to the building on Donor Lane sometime between close of business on Friday and opening this morning (Saturday).
It’s said that a till – which was empty – has been stolen, alongside pieces of computer equipment. The phone lines have also been cut.
Mountbatten say that the situation is frustrating and sad and they simply have ‘no words’. Hampshire Constabulary have been informed.

There really are some absolute low life’s walking this island!
Most don’t walk, they drive BMW’s whilst their kids are up the food bank.
They Play the system, often grow dope and sell giving a higher income than most working, have scattered ‘muvers’ and children costing us all a fortune in rent, child tax credits, child allowance and all paid for council tax and are still vile to society.
What kind of sad creatures steal from a charity?
Someone knows who did this. Burglary is always unacceptable.
This act descends to an all time low , this is so disheartening for those who give their time to this charity.
Report them and shame them. I hope they are proud of themselves.

Stealing from the charity which provides wonderful and compassionate end of life care to many on this island takes the level these scum will stoop to to unbelievable levels, someone knows who these filth are and should report them to the police.

These are the same people you all keep donating food, clothes, holidays and money to, but that’s ok as long as they don’t starve or go without.
They break in somewhere, steal, vandalize or beat someone up and suddenly they’re scum.

Sadly all the do-gooders believe that rewarding these rodents for bad behaviour, breeding and being work shy is the way forward.

Whilst I detest all burglars, I do object to the IW County Depress having an exclusive chat to the Hospice ‘CEO’ (?) about their losses from the sainted local charity. Maybe the self-styled CEO, who is paid more than the chief administrative officer at St Mary’s Hospital, which is why he ditched that job and took this one, and, in benefits, gets a higher take-home pay in real terms than the Prime Minister can tell us about the cancer patients being given test treatment in the say so of his drug sponsors. No. You will get no answer. Lucky if this is broadcast.
I object to your sarcastic description of Mountbatten as a sainted local charity! If you had ever had a loved one cared for there you would know just how vital the work they do is. It’s easy to be a keyboard warrior when you hide behind a self appointed title ‘Lady’ Dunstanding. If you have proof of your accusations regarding the Hospice CEO Nigel Hartley and test treatments on the say so of ‘his’ drug sponsors then come out from behind your keyboard and say so. Otherwise please keep quiet!
I know how hard the actual nursing staff and ancillaries work. They do a sterling job in very demanding circumstances. Trouble is the ‘charity’ is actually a profitable business with managers and the like getting the cream. If you think I will shut up about this then you must be on some of the less well tested drugs the pharmaceutical companies pay The Hospice to push on the sick and vulnerable! Regards.
