Hovertravel services, Red Funnel’s Red Jet and the Cowes Floating Bridge have all been suspended this morning (Saturday) due to the adverse weather conditions.
Islanders and visitors alike are facing significant disruption today as strong winds batter the Isle of Wight and the surrounding Solent area.
Reports are also coming in that Wightlink’s Fishbourne to Portsmouth car ferry service is delayed this morning due to a technical issue. The 07:00 from Fishbourne has failed to depart.
Hovertravel have had a week of cancellations due to the choppy seas and strong gusts on the Ryde to Southsea route and today is no different. An update is expected at 09:00 but services are likely to be cancelled for longer.
Meanwhile, Red Funnel have confirmed that their West Cowes to Southampton Red Jet is suspended until further notice due to the weather.
Yesterday it was announced that the Cowes Floating Bridge would not be running today due to the anticipated weather. This has rung true and therefore motorists must follow an 11-mile diversion via Newport. A passenger launch is in place for those on foot crossing the River Medina.
UPDATE @ 08:04 – Wightlink have announced that the 09:00 sailing from Fishbourne has been cancelled due to the earlier technical issue.
Wightlink’s Yarmouth-Lymington service is running to timetable, as is their catmaran serried from Ryde Pier Head.
Red Funnel’s vehicle ferry service from East Cowes is also running to timetable.
UPDATE @ 16:40 – Hovertravel’s service remains suspended this afternoon, as does the Cowes Floating Bridge.
Red Funnel’s Red Jet is running to timetable now, alongside all other cross-Solent routes.
UPDATE @ 21:20 – Red Funnel have now suspended their vehicle ferry service due to the adverse conditions.
Hovertravel have failed to operate at all today as a result of the conditions on the Solent. The same can be said for the Cowes Floating Bridge.
