40-year-old Andrew Tyler, who was stopped by Police after he was found to be driving under the influence of drugs, has appeared in court charged with drink driving after Police also found him to be over the limit.
Tyler, of Slade Road in Ryde, pleaded guilty to drink driving when he appeared in front of Magistrates on Tuesday.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the bench that at 19:45 on 11th October, Police were on the Broadway in Sandown when they noticed a Vauxhall Corsa that was missing a headlight.
Police pulled the vehicle over and noticed a strong smell of cannabis when they were at the car window, the odour also partly masked by Lynx spray.
A roadside drugs wipe was completed with the test coming back positive for cocaine.
At Newport Police station the 40-year-old also gave an alcohol breath sample, with that test giving a reading of 62.
Police decided however to only charge Tyler with drunk driving and not drug driving – a quicker charge and conviction option.
Defending him, Barry Arnett said that his client had no excuses for what he had done and that he had abstained from alcohol ever since the incident.
Magistrates handed Andrew Tyler a 17-month driving disqualification. They also ordered him to pay a £120 fine, £85 costs and £48 surcharge.
