41-year-old Jonathan Eldridge has been remanded in custody charged over a serious assault on a woman in Ryde on Christmas Eve.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Police arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder on Christmas Day following the assault the night before.
Officers responded to West Street at just before 22:30 on Friday after receiving reports that a woman had been assaulted. They arrived on the scene, near to the junction with Arthur Street, to find a 42-year-old woman with serious head injuries.
Now, Jonathan Eldridge, of West Street in Ryde, has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Southampton Magistrates Court on Monday, where he was further remanded to appear before Portsmouth Crown Court on 21st January.
