All 5 Ryde Harriers had excellent runs in the popular Swansea Half Marathon, with 4 of the 5 representing England in a competitive race against other Home Nations.
The top three athletes from 5 selection races staged throughout England at earlier times of the year, meant that it was possible to have 15 athletes representing England in the different age categories from 35 to 80 years of age.
Running in the youngest and very competitive W35 age group saw Carly Scoble bounce back after a disappointing London Marathon to record a time of 83min 15sec, which was very close to her personal best which placed her the 4th scoring member of her England team, an outstanding result.
Dave Hunt running in the strong M40 category ran a solid race to record 74min 09sec which also placed him in 4th place for the England team, he will now focus on the Island Games in Orkney.
In the W55 age group, Trish Train had another good run finishing in 97min 10sec finishing in 7th place in her team which was won by Karima Harris in 79min 23sec. Karima has recently broken the world record over this distance!
Pete Young, gaining another representative vest was an excellent 3 place in the M75 category recording 107min 22sec. Another outstanding performance as he reaches the upper end of this age group.
Daniel Furmidge who just missed selection with a 4th place in the qualifier in Redcar back in September but entered Swansea as an individual produced a fantastic run clocking 75min 07sec, 2 minutes quicker than in Redcar. This gave Daniel a 3rd place in the M50 age group race but beating every athlete who was selected for England.
Athletes will now focus on the next Hampshire Road Race in Alresford over 10km.
