A man has sustained a significant facial injury following a robbery and assault in Shanklin early this morning (Saturday).
Police were called at 07:10 to a report of an assault taking place at a block of flats at Atherley Park Close, near Lidl.
It’s been confirmed that a man in his 20s was seriously assaulted in the incident, sustaining a cut to his eye. He was also robbed of his wallet, keys and phone.
The victim has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment, where he remains this lunchtime.
Hampshire Constabulary say that when officers arrived at the scene this morning, 1 officer was assaulted by a man, sustaining minor injuries.
A 25-year-old man from Shanklin has been arrested on suspicion of causing Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent, robbery, common assault of an emergency worker and criminal damage.
A 27-year-old man from Shanklin has also been arrested, on suspicion of causing Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent.
Both men remain in custody at Newport Police Station at the current time.
An investigation into the incident is underway with a scene guard in place at Atherley Park Close.

If these two morons are found guilty they need locking up . Violent people have no conscience or empathy and anything other than a custodial sentence us seen as no punishment.
Criminal behaviour must have serious consequences when the criminals are found guilty
