25-year-old Thomas Riordan has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent following a serious assault in Shanklin yesterday (Saturday), which left a man in his 20s with serious facial injuries.
As first reported by Island Echo, Police were called at 07:10 to a report of an assault taking place at a block of flats at Atherley Park Close, near Lidl.
A man in his 20s was seriously assaulted in the incident, sustaining a cut to his eye. He was also allegedly robbed of his wallet, keys and phone.
Hampshire Constabulary say that when officers arrived at the scene, Riordan allegedly violently resisted resulting in 1 officer sustaining minor injuries.
Now, it has been confirmed that Thomas Riordan, of Church Road in Shanklin, has been charged with Section 18 GBH with intent, as well as obstructing/resisting a constable in the execution of their duty.
He has been remanded in custody and will appear before Portsmouth Magistrates Court on Monday.
A second person arrested in connection with this incident, a 27-year-old man from Shanklin, has been released from police custody with no further action being taken against him.
