A woman has been hit by a car on Dover Street in Ryde this afternoon Wednesday).
The incident has occurred between Wood Street and Park Road, close to Aspire.
Island Echo is told that the casualty stepped out behind a van and was struck by a passing vehicle, thought to be a Mazda 3, at around 17:45.
Police and a rapid response paramedic are on scene and the road has been closed in both directions whilst emergency services tend to the injured woman.
UPDATE @ 19:00 – Dover Street has now re-opened.
UPDATE THURSDAY – It has been confirmed that the casualty, a woman in her 50s, has suffered facial and arm injuries – understood to be a broken jaw and a broken wrist.
She is awaiting an operation in Portsmouth.
