Wightlink will be running a revised timetable on its Yarmouth-Lymington car ferry route tomorrow (Sunday) due to staffing issues. The cross-Solent operator is continuing to experience problems with absent members of staff, which is impacting the company’s operations at high season. It has been confirmed that a revised timetable will be running on the West Wight service on Sunday 18th August as a result of an essential crew member being absent. Despite having 2 days’ notice, Wightlink has been unable to seek an alternative solution. All affected customers have been contacted and moved to alternative sailings. A spokesperson for the ferry firm has said:
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this action will cause but we have been unable to source short notice cover for the absent members of staff and so have taken this action as a last resort. “We apologise sincerely for any changes to your travel plans”.
There were cancellations on the Yarmouth route last Sunday too, with a number of evening sailings pulled.

Yes, they pulled the same stunt last Sunday. We had a horrible journey to Lymington due to several hold ups on the M3 & M27. We arrived just in time to see our 15:00 boat sail. The 16:00 was cancelled as was the 18:00. They got us onto the 17:00. I was expecting it to be really busy, but no, it wasn’t anywhere near full. Says it all really. They must be paying this mystery essential crew member to take the day off and save them money.
Two days’ notice and they can’t re-roster? Obviously running on inadequate staff numbers. Quelle surprise!
Time for Wightlink to start a customer compensation scheme…
No doubt the cancelled ferries were punctual!!!
Curious that if you look on the Wightlink website there are no current vacancies shown. So are these shortages deliberate?
Government are probably responsible, the plan going
forward is to stop people travelling
