A fundraising appeal has been launched to help give devoted Isle of Wight volunteer Louise Randall the farewell she deserves following her recent sudden death.
Louise’s husband, Shane, is appealing for the community’s support following the unexpected death of Louise on 9th July, just weeks before the couple would have celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary.
Unable to afford funeral plans due to long-term health issues and living on benefits, Shane says financial support available through the Department for Work and Pensions will not meet the full cost of Louise’s funeral and wake.
Known to many across the Isle of Wight for her selfless dedication to others, Louise spent decades volunteering within the community, supporting children, families and those facing difficult times.
Her work included establishing children’s groups, toddler sessions and after-school clubs through the church, while during the COVID-19 pandemic she helped provide weekly activity packs and online services for around 50 children.
Louise also volunteered with the British Red Cross for 15 years, providing first aid at public events before moving into ambulance duties, where she helped transport end-of-life patients home. She was also a founding member of the Isle of Wight Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Team, helping families affected by emergencies across the Island.
Alongside her community work, Louise served as a Café Chaplain at Newport Minster and later at All Saints Church in Ryde, offering friendship and support to those in need. She was also preparing to begin the final year of a Theology degree through the Congregational Federation this September.
After being diagnosed with the rare conditions Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) and Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR), Louise discovered there was no local support available. Determined to change that, she established an Isle of Wight support group to bring together others living with the conditions.
Paying tribute to his wife, Shane has said:
“Louise had a passion for Christ and serving, as well as a passion for children.”
“On a whole, Louise gave her life to supporting families and individuals, as well as serving God and the wider community.”
“Louise will be missed not only by myself but also by so many others.”
The online fundraiser has been launched to help cover the costs of Louise’s funeral and give the much-loved volunteer the farewell her husband says she deserves. To date, over £2,500 has been raised.
