HM Coastguard and Police battled through poor weather conditions in the search for a suicidal individual in the area of Blackgang overnight.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked at 22:45 to assist Hampshire Constabulary in a concern for welfare search.
Officers on the ground completed a full search from Atherfield to Niton with assistance from Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 175 in the skies above.
The helicopter arrived on scene at around 01:00 – over 2 hours after the search began.
The search was still ongoing at 02:45 this morning and search teams were finally stood down at 03:20, but it is unclear at this moment in time if the individual was located.
A statement is expected to be released by Police later on this morning.
UPDATE @ 09:24 – It has been confirmed that members of the Suicide Prevention & Intervention IOW frontline team were first on scene at Blackgang last night and requested the assistance of Police and HM Coastguard.
UPDATE 16TH JANUARY – No persons were located during the search, Police have confirmed.
