A total of 45 swimmers will take on the iconic Swim for Hope this summer to mark the 45th anniversary of Wessex Cancer Support, completing a 1.3-mile cross-Solent swim from Hurst Point to Colwell Bay on the Isle of Wight.
The challenge will take place on Saturday 8th August and will see participants swim from Hampshire to the Isle of Wight in support of the charity, which provides emotional and practical support to people affected by cancer across the region.
The event is being sponsored for the third year running by RenoDrain, an Isle of Wight-based drainage clearing and repair specialist supporting both residential and commercial customers. The company provides services including new drainage installations, drain realignment and a 24-hour emergency call-out, and has supported homes affected by flooding across the Isle of Wight.
Since launching in 2019, Swim for Hope has raised £140,000 to help support thousands of people affected by cancer every year. Organisers say continued sponsorship from RenoDrain plays a vital role in ensuring the event can take place safely and successfully.
RenoDrain owner Jamie Webster will once again be on the water during the event, accompanying swimmers by kayak and helping to provide on-the-water support throughout the crossing.
Jamie Webster, Owner, has said:
“This event truly embodies the passion, dedication and strength of our region in supporting others.
“We’re proud to sponsor Swim for Hope and to support the vital work Wessex Cancer Support does for local people and families.”
All swimmer places for this year’s event have now sold out and a waiting list is in place. However, organisers are still appealing for experienced kayakers and boat owners to help ensure a safe crossing for everyone involved.
Anyone able to assist on the water is encouraged to get in touch with the organisers to register their interest.
