Red Funnel has announced that at least 4 Red Jet crossings have been cancelled this afternoon (Wednesday) due to a mechanical fault.

The cross-Solent operator says that the 16:55 and 18:15 sailings from Southampton and the 17:35 and 18:55 sailings from West Cowes have all been cancelled.

It’s said that the jet unit on Red Jet 7 has failed.

UPDATE @ 16:00 – It has now been confirmed that the 06:15, 07:35 and 08:55 sailings from Southampton have been cancelled tomorrow morning (Thursday), alongside the 06:55, 08:15 and 09:35 from West Cowes.

UPDATE @ 18:24 –  Red Funnel has confirmed that cancellations will continue until at least Friday.

A spokesperson has said:

“We have experienced a mechanical issue with the starboard inner jet unit of Red Jet 7, requiring us to remove the vessel from service until repairs can be completed. Until such time that Red Jet 7 returns to service, we need to make some cancellations to scheduled crossings and operate a reduced service.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this will cause to some of our passengers, especially to our regular commuters.

“Our teams are busy adapting the timetable as well as doing all they can to get Red Jet 7 back in service as quickly as possible. We encourage customers to consider using our ferry vehicles as an alternative option, which are currently running to timetable. We will endeavour to give customers as much notice as possible about any further disruptions, so they can plan ahead, and will share a further update on Thursday afternoon.”

The following crossings have been cancelled:

From Southampton

  • Wednesday 13th Oct: 16.55, 18.15
  • Thursday 14th Oct: 06:15, 07:35, 08:55, 16.55, 18.15
  • Friday 15th Oct: 06:15, 07:35, 08:55

From West Cowes
