Access to 2 public consultation meetings on the future of Chillerton and Rookley Primary School will be restricted as the Isle of Wight Council has introduced additional safety measures due to COVID-19.
The Isle of Wight Council said the steps were necessary in light of the continuing number of positive cases of the virus and concerns around the newly identified Omicron variant, however, they go above and beyond what is currently required by Government.
Following discussions with Public Health, the Council has said it will be implementing the following measures to ensure everyone’s safety and wellbeing:
- Meeting at Godshill Primary School (2nd December) will be restricted to a maximum capacity of 35 to allow for social distancing.
- Meeting at Chillerton and Rookley Primary School (9th December) will be restricted to a maximum capacity of 21 to allow for social distancing.
- All attendees are required to undertake an LFT test at home prior to attending and should not attend if they receive a positive test result.
- Ventilation by opening windows and doors; recommending all those attending to wear appropriate clothing.
- Face coverings to be worn unless exempt for medical reasons.
- Provision for hand washing/and or sanitiser.
There is currently no legal requirement to socially distance, nor conduct a LFT before going into a building.
To secure a place at one of the 2 meetings, people should contact the relevant school who will reserve a place.
The council asks that people only book one place per household/organisation so to offer as many places as possible to all stakeholders.
Richard Vaughan, deputy head of strategic development, said:
“Following the two meetings, should we conclude that a third meeting is required we will endeavour to facilitate this at the earliest opportunity.”
How is this even legal to impose when there is no requirement to do do?
typical useless council. I suppose it makes it easier to whitewash whatever brown envelope dealings that have already been lined up?
the council are trying to make it as difficult as possible – they could also have the meeting on zoom as well, so that those that wish to attend, but cannot due to illness or concerns are not excluded
