Fire crews from 2 Island towns are tackling a fire within a prison cell at HMP Isle of Wight.
3 appliances, 1 from Ryde and 1 from Newport were dispatched at 16:04, and are currently in attendance at the scene on Parkhurst Road.
1 duty fire officer is also at the scene.
It’s unknown how the fire started and how serious it might be.

The staff should be trained to deal with a fire in a cell, why do they have to call for outside help?…
Having been in the prison service for 30 years I saw many fires in the prisons on the I O W staff are trained to evacuate inmates to safe areas but we were not provided the correct equipment to be safe in confined areas we were prison officers not fireman. (Now Retired).
Why not???….if your house had a fire and it was controllable you would deal with it……sometimes equipment isn’t available..however, sometimes we have to make disisions to do the right thing….This Woke ideology is not always right….
More inbred spastics will be along soon
Should have left it a while. Saved tax payers and their victims a lot of grief
Officers are trained on how to use smoke hood and have methods to inundate cells in order to tackle fires however they still require the assitance of the fire service who provide guidance and support in terms of managing fires and preventing fires spreading.
By that logic if you’re trained in first aid don’t ring an ambulance.
Ignorant people like you should not make stupid comments on something they know nothing about!
should have evacuated everyone else and left the person who started it locked in their cell to burn. Would put the rest of them off the idea of starting fires.
Should have left ALL of the nonces burn to death…..imo.
Non smoking policy at all uk prisons nowadays, so all matches and lighters are banned.
But all you need is an electric kettle and bog roll and bobs your answer.
