Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have seized a van that was being driven without insurance, tax and an MOT this afternoon (Friday).
Whilst on patrol, officers spotted a white Vauxhall Vivaro van being driven without insurance, tax and a valid MOT.
Officers stopped the vehicle in the IMO Car Wash car park on Brading Road and found that the tax was due in May 2020 and the MOT expired in September 2022.
The driver, a 52-year-old male, has been reported for a number of offences and will appear in court in due course.
The vehicle has been seized and collected by Bartlett’s recovery.
A spokesperson from Isle of Wight Police has said:
“Remember, as the driver, it is your responsibility to ensure the vehicle is insured, taxed and MOT’d.”

Well done keep up good work
Two years without tax? TWO years and you think this is ‘well done’???
Well done to police, well took them 2yrs. At least if not paid tax and insurance for 2 yrs will of saved over £2000,so a £35 fine won’t hurt him. Should be fined equal to what should of paid.
Two years jail would be a better punishment, typical van driver, no respect for others..
Two years jail? If it wasn’t for these so called typical van drivers. All of your homes would be falling to bits.
Yes I’ve experienced a few of these bloody van drivers that have ripped me off, bloody cowboys…
So this guy is one of many. Grass them up. That’s what I say.smug gits
Hope the van gets crushed.
Together with his balls !
I wonder if the Fine will cover the savings he made on Tax and Insurance.. I doubt it.
Island Echo could play their part by not deleting the number plate and naming the driver.Where’s the harm in that ?
Innocent until proven guilty by the court, so the matter is Sub Judice. Bearing that in mind, publishing photos of shop lifters before they have been taken to court could come under the same terms, but on the other hand, how do you catch them without doing that? Wait until they have had their day in court and then IE will no doubt splash the details.
I was behind that van a few days ago in lake
Pleased i was behind and not infront
i bet most cars on that island has no tax no mot on ins
Typical stupid comment from bob. Your grammar leaves a lot to be desired as well!
I could be wrong but if the vehicle has not been SORN then surely the fact it has no tax should have been flagged anyway?
correct – and if he didn’t SORN it he will be due to pay the tax from when it was last taxed. And if he did SORN it and has been caught driving it he will still be due the tax from when it was last taxed AND a big fine and poss prison.
This is slack work by police should of been caught ages ago as surely DVLA had the info and would of been passes to polices ANPR
Maybe the speed camera vans should be equipped with the ANPR system maybe then then a lot of dodgers would get caught
I totally agree with what Freddie & good driver said
Skank. Let’s hope they give him a massive fine. None of this £150 and community service nonsense
We really need Big Brother to up his game to sniff out the illegals, filling up with fuel should require finger print/iris recognition and anpr, red funnel/wight link need anpr – law abiding citizens wont have a problem – need to make it harder for the bottom feeders who cause misery and mayhem to those they come in contact with – like the chav who was driving this van.
He was’nt a chav, he was a hedge hopper.
