A car has crashed into a ditch on the outskirts of Rookley this evening (Saturday).
Police are advising motorists to slow down due to the position of the Honda Jazz on a ‘dangerous’ bend between Rookley and Blackwater.
The incident occurred just before 15:35.
Recovery of the vehicle has been arranged.
UPDATE @ 18:15 – Police have confirmed that the driver of the Jazz has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and having no insurance.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“The driver of this vehicle was arrested this afternoon after coming off the road and ending up down a ditch.
“Unfortunately he was found to be over the drink drive limit and also admitted he had no insurance.
“The vehicle was seized for having no insurance and the driver is currently enjoying our hospitality and will attend court at a later date.”

Ah another car accident, it must be these gloomy, wet conditions, but very unlucky in a lock down to be out and then to crash.
Are you kidding? Have you actually read the full report? He was a DRUNK DRIVER AND NO INSURANCE. Unlucky is if this driver hit another innocent road user. Fool, read the post properly next time!
It’s called sarcasm, easy to comprehend – hard to detect by some people.
Sarcasm, so the saying goes, is the lowest form of wit! Many on here, as I do, think this crime warrants harsher sentences than the pathetic ones given out by island judges. So not a time to introduce sarcasm really, given the seriousness of drunk or drug driving…….the consequences can be horrific when these selfish idiots get behind the wheel.
A car driver. Stop depersonalising incidents involving drivers of four wheeled motor vehicles.
This must 100% be a medical episode (assumption based purely on the choice of car)
Well you were 100% wrong there weren’t you div
Yes I was. Its called sarcasm, wasn’t a serious comment. If you took it as such then you are the div.
Whats the betting it’s come to light they were also driving on a ban.
Why do people think for one moment that it’s ok to drive a car without insurance when the police know almost instantly from their on board computer??, why add to that by drink or drug driving??..
There are some very dumb idiots out there….
The “no insurance” bit is a technicality – the driver probably had insurance but drink driving would have rendered that invalid because the driver was breaking the law at the time.
Two offences for the price of one!
Why downvote this comment. If you’re over the drink drive limit, your insurance is null and void, therefore you have no insurance.
The law states…. third party damages MUST be paid by the insurance company. Even if the driver is D/D. What this means is that( not in this case) if the driver had hit another car/crashed into a house, that damage MUST be paid for.Invariably, the insurance co will NOT pay for any damage to the insured’s car. Further more, some companies ( Admiral et al) can pursue the driver and sue them for any money that the insurer had to pay out to a third party.
Police know but do they bother. 4% of the UK are driving round uninsured , chances of getting caught unless you crash are pretty slim, hence selfish people save themselves hundreds if not thousands (if a young driver) not bothering.Often have no license either so what do points matter to them.
Unfortunately, the idiots in Westminster scrapped the requirement for a licence (tax disc) to be displayed a few years ago. Therefore the public cannot tell if a car has been parked or dumped. If the disc requirement was reinstated, along with another disc confirming insurance is in place, the public could report illegal cars to the authorities.
All is needed is the reg numb…look it up on cat tax checker site…easy
Yes, you can look up a specific vehicle if you have concerns, but if discs were mandatory, anyone could spot illegal vehicles just by glancing at them as they walk past.
Well done the police let’s hope now that the magistrates administers the right punishment, minimum of 2 years ban plus re test and a hefty fine would fit the bill.
Why do these CRETINS think it’s ok to drink and drive? And add in, no insurance either. These people could and unfortunately do sometimes, kill other innocent road users. The judges must get tough with low life like this driver. Way too soft with punishment on the island.
