UPDATED: Police on the Isle of Wight are investigating an alleged serious assault which took place in Ventnor yesterday afternoon (Saturday).
A 999 call was made to Police at around 15:00 reporting an incident at an address on Trinity Road, close to St Boniface Road. Several Police units from across the Island hurried to the scene alongside paramedics the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Island Echo understands that a weapon – a baseball bat – was used in the alleged assault.
Detectives from Newport CID are now involved in the investigation and are carrying out further enquiries.
UPDATE MONDAY – A man and a teenage boy have been charged with several offences following an alleged assault on a 38-year-old man with a baseball bat.
30-year-old Patrick Rice of Trinity Road, Ventnor has been charged 5 offences including affray; possession of an offensive weapon; racially/religiously aggravated fear or provocation of violence by words/writing; using threatening/abusive/insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress, and using threatening/abusive/insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence.
Meanwhile a 17-year-old boy from Ventnor – who cannot be named for legal reasons – has been charged with 3 offences including affray, possession of an offensive weapon and using threatening/abusive/insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence.
The duo will appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today.
The 38-year-old man did not require treatment in hospital.
