Police officers from both the Isle of Wight and the mainland have descended on a property in Newport this morning (Thursday) as part of the execution of a drugs warrant.
Officers are currently on scene at a residential address on Albany Road, off Hunnyhill.
Island Echo understands that officers, who are searching for illegal substances, arrived in convoy at 08:00.
Albany Road is currently blocked due to the large number of vehicles present.
The attendance has been scaled up due to the presence of numerous dogs inside the targeted property.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has been approached for comment, with further updates expected later today.

Several things to comment on, presumably this search was time sensitive so glad the ferries were running and the officers from the mainland could make it and more worringly are there insufficient resources within the island police to cope with such a raid or perhaps a major outbreak of disorder.
The scum and filth we now have on this island..no hard justice so it goes on..
which bit do you not get ?,the real “drug dealers”are well dressed nice cars own business on our picture book Island living respectable one of the lads lives, and the Isle of Wight Constabulary know who they are and do diddly squat to go after them.prefrring to grab small amounts and street dealers and this lot were not arrested or charged…somebody had been giving out bad snitchy stories, not wanting to cast aspersions but they did nick that lot from Coventry who seemingly have fed them a load of total rollox,……..again,!!.
Imagine if drugs were decriminalised and regulated like tobacco and alcohol.
The dealers and OCGs could be all but put out of business overnight and addiction could be treated as the illness it is rather than simply criminalising the sick.
I understand your views but that would not prevent criminals by passing the regulations to evade taxes and to supply dangerous drugs made in unregulated factories. There is a huge illegal trade in imported alcohol , vapes and tobacco despite the law. Not only evading tax at every level , but endangering lives because a lot of the products ar fake and contain dangerous ingredients.
Your suggestion would however help those with addiction issues to obtain safe supplies
This a very complex problem
It would solve the problem over night, apart from greed by the government. Their stupidity and love of taxing the shit out of anything, creates the perfect market for the these people to exploit.
Legalisation of drugs would work, it has in numerous country’s, even the places where there used to be the death penalty for thinking about it and has actually cut down the number if addicts. If the pricing of drugs etc under cut the illegal supplies, the market has gone and drugs could be openly checked for nasty things.
America has I think spent over a trillion dollars over time on ‘the war on drugs’ and things have gotten worse. Prohibition does not work, sensible management should.
