Police, paramedics and fire crews are in attendance at a road traffic collision on the outskirts of Shanklin this evening (Saturday).
The incident has occurred on Shanklin Road around halfway between Whiteley Bank and Victoria Avenue and has seen a a vehicle career into a hedge near the junction with Apse Manor Road.
Operatives from all 3 major emergency services are currently on scene including the rescue tender from Newport Fire Station and further appliances from Shanklin and Ventnor.
Paramedics from Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are tending to the casualties involved who have had to have been cut free from the vehicle by firefighters, who have since made the scene safe.
The road is currently closed between Whiteley Bank and Apse Manor Road with a Police closure is in place at both ends.
UPDATE @ 20:45 – 1 ambulance has left the scene as has Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue’s rescue tender.
The road remains closed.
Hampshire Constabulary have been approached for a statement with an update expected tomorrow morning (Sunday).
UPDATE ON SUNDAY – It has been confirmed that 2 casualties were treated at the scene.
No doubt these sort of incidences are the reason we’re forced to pay more and more towards the Police and Fire Service.

Lets hope it is the guilty who are suffering, not anyone innocent.
Sadly it is the ONLY way some idiots will learn, and sadder still most never will.
Seems hard, but could so easily have been any one of us, crippled, or killed by such.
Change the rules to allow hidden portable speed cameras and give meaningful sentences.
