The scrambling of the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter to the skies above Newport yesterday afternoon (Monday) was to help find a suspect ‘wanted’ by Police.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary requested the assistance of the Bournemouth-based chopper shortly before 15:00 amid a search in the Pan/Barton area of Newport for a male that they wished to speak to.
Island Echo understands that boots on the ground were seen on Pan Lane and Manor Crescent, with officers asking people in the local vicinity if they had seen a man in an orange tracksuit.
After around 20 minutes on scene, the helicopter left the Island and headed back to Dorset, with officers on the ground dispersing shortly after.
Police have since confirmed that no arrests were made.
