A car has crashed and come to rest upside down on its roof at Blackwater on the outskirts of Newport this afternoon (Tuesday).
The incident has occurred on the main Newport to Sandown road at Blackwater, near the entrance to Wight Building Materials.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has 2 appliances on scene, with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service having mobilised a paramedic crew and an enhanced care paramedic.
Police are also in attendance and the road is closed between Wight Buidling Materials and just past Isle of Wight Distribution.
Southern Vectis Route 2 buses will divert via Rookley in both directions until further notice.
UPDATE @ 17:00 – The response has been scaled down with the ambulance service’s operational commander and a fire appliance from Newport amongst some of the emergency vehicles to have now stood down.
The road remains closed whilst recovery is arranged.
UPDATE @ 20:00 – The road has now re-opened.

This island is a bloody joke
There’s a car on its roof every other day. What’s the matter with this place?
Too many cars and too many Mainlanders
Speed and idiots really bad conditions on the roads and people still won’t slow down
This island is a beautiful place, it’s just slightly reined by a small minority that live here.
Or don’t live here
Until Island Roads sort out the flooding after resurfacing and removing the Camber there will be more,at least 5 so far
Police need to start handing out permenant driving bans with NO appeal option for people who clearly can’t drive and choose to go out in bad conditions. Total waste of space. Lol
Freddie, it’s about driving according to the road conditions.
too true Jon
Its nothing to do with the Island . Its the drivers going too fast , not concentrating , drink or drug driving .
I was driving on motorways on the mainland yesterday and despite the atrocious weather, found a number of drivers were not driving according to the conditions. Too fast, too close and no signalling to name a few things.
Where does it mention the part about a speeding driver rolling the car ? Every single time there is an accident speed is always blamed, I’s sure some people on here consider anything over 30mph too quick for our ‘quaint little Island’.
I actually think you could probably manage to roll a car on the s bend there at no more than 20mph if you clipped that low bank on the left at the right moment as the weight of the car is shifted offside when heading towards Newport.
Whilst I agree that plenty of people drive like asshats, its not always the reason
The Isle of wight roads were built when cars could only reach 30 MPH( with a wind behind them ) and were the size of match boxes not the size of the modern day Urban Tanks . We should accept this fact and drive accordingly .
