Response and Patrol officers across the Isle Of Wight have stopped and arrested no less than 6 drink drivers in the past 2 nights.
Police on the Island are working around the clock to take drivers off the roads who shouldn’t be behind the wheel, either through being unfit or by not having the correct documentation.
Shockingly, over Friday and Saturday night alone a total of 6 people were been found to be over the drink drive limit of 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath.
Anyone suspected of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs is required by law to complete a roadside test, which indicates to Police whether or not you are over the prescribed limit. Anyone found to fail the roadside test is then arrested and taken to Newport Police Station to provide an evidential test. It is an offence to not provide a sample for testing.
In recent weeks there appears to have been an emphasis on stopping those without insurance, tax or MOT, as well as targeting those who decide to take drink/drugs and drive. A number of people have had their cars seized as a result, alongside a string of prosecutions.
Hampshire Constabulary are using social media to highlight that it’s #notworththerisk.

Throw the book at them. If they’re that cocky to think it’s safe to drink & drive then a fine & few points on licence isn’t going to bother them.
Make these fines thousands not hundreds. Hit them where it hurts, then it’s impacting on the wallet & possibly family. It will make think about it more if punishment was harsher.
Well done, keep up the good work IOW police.
