Police armed with riot shields are in attendance at a hotel in Ryde this afternoon (Thursday), where concerns have been raised for the welfare of a man.
Officers responded to Abingdon Lodge on the corner of West Street and Green Street in the town shortly before 11:30, with more resources arriving around an hour later.
It has been confirmed by Hampshire Constabulary that they are responding to concerns raised for the welfare of a male inside the hotel.
Police are engaging with the man and the incident remains ongoing at this time.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is also in attendance.
UPDATE FRIDAY – Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that no one was injured in yesterday’s incident, which had drawn to a close by 16:00.
A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage. He has been released from custody but remains under investigation.
