Platform One will be capitalising on the excitement created by the Isle of Wight Festival and transferring that to local school children across a 10-date tour, performing in some 20 Island primary schools. ‘On The Road’ will see recent Wight Noize winner Marnie Marie and her band perform a selection of tracks just days after opening the mainstage at Seaclose. Andy Booth, the Music Industry Liaison at Platform One, says encouraging young people to engage in music has many benefits:
“We have a duty to ensure that we are inspiring and educating young children through music. Research suggests that both listening to music and playing a musical instrument can help reduce stress and anxiety, as well as strengthen muscle memory and coordination.”
Booth, who also has a seat on the Futures Boards at UK Music reiterates the new national plan for music education:
“Music should be represented in every school’s leadership structure. The vision is to enable all children and young people to play an instrument, learn to sing and create music together. They should all have the opportunity to pursue interests and talents”.
In addition to the live performance, Platform One will also be discussing the selection of instruments being used with members of the band showcasing their respective specialism. The schools tour will begin on Wednesday 26th June and run until Wednesday 10th July.
