Whilst the doors to the heritage centre have been closed, members of Ventnor & District Local History Society have been busy putting together a new photobook that explores Ventnor and The Undercliff in a journey through pictures.
The book, written by Michael Freeman and Lesley Telford, dives into Ventnor’s past and includes around 180 black and white photographs, both from the Society archives and some from private collections, spanning a period from about 1860 to 1950.
The authors have used documentary evidence and personal testimony to recover something of past emotional lives and livelihoods.
Ventnor & District Local History Society, which is a registered charity and is completely run by volunteers, holds archives covering the whole Undercliff area from Chale in the west to Luccombe in the east and as far inland as Godshill.
The book is available at a price of £16.75, which includes UK postage. It is available now from https://www.ventnorheritage.org.uk/shop/.
Anyone wishing to support the Society can join as a member at just £12 per year and new volunteers are always welcome. All details are available on the website at https://www.ventnorheritage.org.uk or by post to Ventnor Heritage Centre. 11 Spring Hill, Ventnor PO38 1PE.

Seems a really interesting book, as this area is still beautiful. Hush don’t tell the council though, for they will build it to ruination. ONLY the fact that much is slipping stops them atm.
