Morrisons stores in Newport and Lake have raised just over £58,000 for children and young people with cancer over the past 2-and-a-half years.
Staff have been fundraising as part of a partnership with CLIC Sargent, a charity that works tirelessly for children and young people with cancer and their families.
Newport Morrisons Community Champion, Leah Tosdevin said:
“We are so grateful to our fantastic customers for supporting our fundraising in store and of the £38,899 we raised in Newport, £18,206 of this was from second hand books! We have second hand books in store where customers can make a donation to CLIC Sargent. If anyone has any spare books that they would like to donate to us, I would be very grateful.”
Lake Morrisons Community Champion, Carrie Finneran said: “We have all really enjoyed working with CLIC Sargent. We also have second hand books in our Lake store. Both our stores have raised money by having in-store raffles, tombolas and bucket collections, customers have been knitting Easter and Christmas themed decorations and staff have taken on challenges for the charity.”
Liz Blunt, local Fundraising Engagement Manager for CLIC Sargent on the Isle of Wight said:
“It’s been great to catch up with Leah and Carrie over the last few years. They are both doing such a great job and I just want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to the staff and the generous customers on the Isle of Wight.
The national partnership with Morrisons has been incredible. For example, the money raised has paid for nurse educators, grants to help families with the financial costs of cancer and new online support. Thanks again to the fabulous Newport and Lake customers and staff for joining our fight for young lives with cancer.”
If you have any second hand books that you would be happy to donate to Newport or Lake Morrisons please take along to the customer service desk at the front of store. Last year, CLIC Sargent supported 235 children and young people with cancer from the Isle of Wight and Hampshire.
