Red Funnel has announced that there will be no Red Jet sailings in the afternoon tomorrow (Sunday) – despite having only just announced the introduction of extra sailings from Monday.
Due to staff absence as a result of COVID-19, Red Jets will not be running between 12:15-16:15 from Southampton and 12:55-16:55 from West Cowes.
It’s unclear how many days the disruption will last for.
Despite all restrictions surrounding the COVID pandemic having been lifted, a number of companies are insisting that staff remain off work if they test positive for COVID-19. It was hoped that the situation would improve with the removal of free testing on 1st April, but staff absence remains a problem across a number of industries.
It was on Tuesday that Red Funnel announced it would be adding 40 additional sailings into the weekly timetable.
What I find strange all these vaccines administered, yet 1 in 13 people in UK have covid.

The vaccines don’t stop infection, they lessen the severity of the symptoms. Have people not learnt anything in the last 2 years or so? If the Tory Government kept face masks mandatory in public places and on public transport, we wouldn’t be in the mess the UK is currently in.

The majority of people getting Covid are vaccinated people, How is it then that all NHS staff are PPE up, yet off with Covid?! I’m self employed worked over thirty years and have been off less than a handful of times.

Yes, we all do have to learn to live with COVID, but the stupid, selfish MPs have removed all safety procedures, this is why COVID numbers are out of control. The Tories have no concern for all the poor hospitals who rammed with sick people due to this virus anymore.

COVID is not going away and, unless everyone stays 2m away from other people, most businesses stay closed or their staff do not leave home, people will carry on getting infected.
Wearing a mask will have a minor effect on that. Wearing it outside will have zero effect.
Last time I checked, hospitals weren’t rammed. They weren’t even that busy. They just have a lot of staff off on full pay with a positive test and no symptoms.
Good job we don’t routinely test for all the other highly infectious diseases – we’d be in a permanent state of lockdown if we did.

Too many people are taking tests without having any symptoms or just a sniffle in the hope that they test positive for some free days off work. Hopefully this passes after people have had their breaks. And before anyone says, I’m sure some are genuinely ill but the majority just want a holiday.

Unfortunately there are to many people who don’t care about anyone else, living with Covid requires a large degree of common sense and respect, for those less able to deal with this disease, the vaccine des not cure the problem, it only at best makes it less likely to develop severe symptoms, masks and some spacial awareness do not also make it impossible to contract Covid.
However it all REDUCES the spread, I do not know what it takes to get this into some peoples heads, it can only be selfishness, stupidity or lack of intelligence, ( probably a mixture ).

So true Kev. Wearing a mask is a minor inconvenience, it’s not an assault on your freedom. So many treating shop staff with contempt and not wearing a mask. Only wearing it for ten minutes mean they don’t have to wear one all day. Covidiots show that they only think of themselves.
Actually when I am inside a building I still wear a mask, it shows respect to others and also protects me from the village idiots such as (Jimmy) who think that vaccinations stop the spread of infection.

Big companies pay the staff if they are off or say do not come in. So all the staff now do the lemon lemsip test on a LFT. A great way to be on full pay. 2032 Isle of Wight tunnel closed due to covid.
If a SERVICE is to be provided more staff are needed however expensive that may be.In providing a SERVICE ‘the bottom line’ may have to take a hit.

What do people really expect. No masks anymore, not even on public transport. Just because the Tories have decided to lift all restrictions, people’s ignorance is allowing the virus to run wild. If everyone still did, the number of infections wouldn’t be so high and all the transport facilities wouldn’t be cancelling their journeys. Since Red funnel appointed a new Chief operating officer the service has deteriorated significantly. They are not providing the services they should. It is badly impacting those people myself and my son included who commute regularly, young adults as well who attend schools and colleges in Southampton. Our local MP seems either unwilling to get involved or unable to to positively influence Red funnel. They have gone from one of the most reliable service providers pre pandemic to one of the most unreliable. If they were a rail franchise their licence operate would have been withdrawn

I find most of the comments on this article very strange. Why don’t islanders know how vaccinations works. They are not a cure or preventative for Covid and it’s variants. Anyone who gets COVID-19 can become seriously ill or have long-term effects. The COVID-19 vaccines are the best way to protect yourself and others. Research has shown that vaccines help to reduce your risk of getting seriously ill or dying from COVID-19, reduce your risk of catching or spreading COVID-19, protect against COVID-19 variants.
By wearing masks etc it helps to stop the spread or contacting Covid from those who refuse to take precautions.
