A new Weeping Beech tree has today (Thursday) been planted in Newport’s Church Litten Park.
The new Weeping Beech is approximately 4m in height with a trunk girth of approximately 21cm and will be protected with a sturdy tree enclosure as it settles into its new home.
It has been planted as close as possible to the site of where the old tree was located.
To mark this significant event, a gathering will be held later in the Spring to welcome the new tree. Community members are warmly invited to attend and participate in this occasion, which will be advertised nearer the time.
Islanders can still submit their stories and memories of the Weeping Beech to [email protected], which will be used to create a digital memorial.
It was sad to see the old tree go.
I saw the new tree being planted today,
it will take years to mature, but at least
it’s been replaced.
How about planting a few mature Cordyline palms on the GKN roundabout?
Not surprised it’s weeping…we all are too.
