Style of Wight, the Island’s leading inspirational lifestyle magazine, has this week announced a brand new and exciting competition for children.
The magazine is offering young Island authors the chance to have their prize winning stories published in a new literary competition.
Specifically for children aged between 8 and 16 years of age, this competition aims to encourage youngsters to submit 500 original words on any subject or theme and to stretch their storytelling minds.
Style of Wight will be working closely with Island schools to encourage children to participate in what is anticipated to become an annual event.
Christian Warren, Editor of Style of Wight said:
“We wanted to offer children something different and something that they could really aspire to. Literacy is one of the most important subjects at school and something that we carry forward with us through life and this competition is Style of Wight’s unique way of championing young Island authors.”
Paul Armfield of Quay Arts said:
“At Quay Arts we love working with Style of Wight, they are always so keen and proactive in letting people know about the Island’s many cultural offerings, and with competitions like this, getting people directly involved. As part of the Cultural Education Partnership we are working together with many other agencies across the island to ensure that young people experience a whole wealth of cultural experiences and this competition will certainly do that.”
Entries should be submitted by 17:00 on 8th December and the magazine will announce the shortlist of finalists in the January 2018 publication.
Entries in the 8-12 category and the 12-16 category will be judged by a panel of professionals and there will be a prestigious prize giving award ceremony at Quay Arts. A number of winning entries will be published in a professionally illustrated book with all profits going to local Isle of Wight charity – Second Wave.
All entries should be submitted to [email protected] or by post to 21 Holyrood St, Newport PO30 5AZ.
