O2 customers in the Newport area will be pleased to hear that Vodafone is looking into a signal issue in the area, but a fix to the long-standing issue isn’t imminent. The mast, used by O2 customers across the county town, is managed by rival firm Vodafone, however, the mast is currently down. The issue isn’t just an isolated issue though. Local businesses, such as The Price is Wight, say they have long been encountering signal issues that have seen them unable to make or receive calls or even get online – one of the main facets of their business. Taking to their Facebook page to voice their frustrations, many Islanders agreed with the sentiments of Price is Wight with over 100 comments left in earnest. When quizzed about the issues, an O2 spokesperson has said:
“We are aware that some customers in the Newport area may be experiencing intermittent issues with their service. “Our infrastructure partner, Vodafone, is aware of the issue and is actively looking at ways to boost capacity in the area.”
Back in 2021, O2 merged with Virgin Media forming VMO2. Island Echo understands that Vodafone are looking into the issue but that its down to VMO2 to escalate the issue further.
