Volunteer tree planters and members of the Seaview and Nettlestone communities gathered for a special tree planting ceremony in Sophie Watson’s Garden on Thursday (2nd June).
Barry Elliot, Chair of Nettlestone and Seaview Parish Council, unveiled a plaque in front a tree planted to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The Queen’s Green Canopy is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. To increase and protect native tree cover across the nation, individuals and communities are being urged to create a Green Canopy as a ‘special gift’ for the Queen, to mark her 70 years on the throne.
In Nettlestone and Seaview, despite the trials and tribulations of the COVID pandemic, more than 50 volunteers, as well as children from the local primary school, have already planted over 100 trees throughout the Parish as part of a local tree planting project.
This, the last tree to be planted, will be registered as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy: a fitting ‘special gift’ from the Parish for Her Majesty to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee.
