A total of 191 community recovery grants, valued at around £95,500, were awarded to those affected by the flooding during Storm Babet back in October. The news was announced in a Leaders Update to Cabinet’ published by Isle of Wight Council Leader, Phil Jordan. The grant was introduced following October’s devastating floods and saw property owners in affected areas given the chance to apply for up to £500 to give cash quickly to help with immediate costs. Around 250 Island households applied for the relief. Island businesses were also eligible for support with small-to-medium-sized enterprises able to apply for up to £2,500 from the Business Recovery Grant to help them return quickly to business as usual. A total of 37 Island businesses received recovery grants totalling £92,500 – meaning the Government has paid out £188,000 in emergency funding to affected Islanders.

£500 to repair damage caused by the council not using the flood defences correctly? They’d be well within their rights to sue the council
Looks like India, although that is unfair to India, they have a national space program. Time we start asking for aid from other countries. Which is really odd considering we’re still one of the biggest economies in the world. 6th when I looked. So, if we’re so big, why is there no money to go around? I hope no one in government is stealing it.
Maybe some people in India can start a charity called Wightaid and raise money to help the poor of the Isle of Wight. We helped them out when times were tough so they owe us now we are the poor ones.
