A community survey has been launched to gather views from Yarmouth residents about the future of the former Yarmouth Primary School site, which now lies vacant.
The premises and associated land are set to be marketed by the Isle of Wight Council.
But before that happens, Island MP Bob Seely said, first, he wants residents to have their say on its future.
He said:
“I’m keen that the Isle of Wight Council makes sure it gets the best value out of the site and that doesn’t necessarily mean the highest price, but the best outcome for the community.
“I’ve been out knocking on doors in Yarmouth over the last few weekends to listen to what residents have to say. Those I’ve spoken to so far want to see the site used for either affordable housing, education, or community use.
“There’s a good opportunity here to put together a community bid so there’s lots of work to be done.
“I’m keen to ensure resident views are considered. I’ve spoken with members of Yarmouth Town Council – and they agree – which is why they have put together an online survey to capture views. They have also successfully applied to register the property as an Asset of Community Value and formed a steering group.
“I’ll be out in Yarmouth again this weekend to deliver letters with a link to the survey. If residents prefer, they can also send their views directly to me at [email protected].”
The survey can be found here.

Convert into an old people home stunning place to retire
Great place for some luxury flats. Or maybe some flats. Flats would be a good option too. Probably flats …
Flattery will get you nowhere.
Expect that the council will sell it to a developer for a bargain price and some murky characters on the council will allow houses to be built there. No money will change hands obviously.
Remove the ‘Expect that’ and you will be more accurate.
Could use it as a school maybe? Oh no, that’s already been done
What does it have to do with him? Another cheap headline grab perchance?
It’s just pop up MP Bob that’s all .. nothing will change for Yarmouth.. it’s finished ..
Turning it into a refugee centre or asylum centre would be great. The island could do a lot more to help those fleeing war, oppression, intimidation, famine, and other horrors. I would feel proud if the island could help home these poor people who have suffered terrible hardships and loss.
Or mayby a deportation centre to put them back on their rubber dinghy’s and set them on their way??
Whilst ‘getting your sarc’ may I suggest to anyone wishing to help those listed in your sarcastic to inflame post, that they take them into THEIR homes if wishing to help, and feed, clothe, educate and treat them at ‘their ‘ expense.
Can’t afford to? Haven’t the room?, May not get on with others there? Not my responsibility?
Well, Ditto, dittio, ditto and ditto for the rest of us.
THINK.
By an accident of birth, you are not living in war, poverty, famine, or some other misery like so many millions. Take a second to reflect on that and put yourself in their shoes for a moment. By luck, you live in a wealthy, peaceful country. You do have some responsibility for helping others to have a better life. If you don’t think that is the case, then you should ponder why you even bother existing.
Too many BRING their crime, their cruelty here.
Putting a few pennies in an Oxfam tin was fine, but now we fund them all here without choice, AND to our cost in more than money.
So I ponder THAT
Affordable housing overlooking a prime river site in Yarmouth? Imagine the resale value of those as they are put immediately back on the market after being picked up for an ‘affordable’ price
Why does that thing have to poke its nose in? No-one likes it.
Pop up Bob was on Talk TV tonight . No idea what he said, had to switch off .
I’ve seen him on a late night tv show doing his mp work, the arrogance oozed out..very displeasing person who hasn’t helped the island to progress in anyway or form
How about just flattening it and returning it to a green space for the many and not just a few greedy developers or the money pit of the Council where it would just be lost.
Surprised the many hatted Ex Mayor of Yarmouth hasn’t tried to float the idea to offset his own ‘NO’ affordable housing development in Wellow.
Ahh yes 2nd homes and the cycle path to nowhere, benefits no one … but … !!
Should of been left as a school, but Bob was silent on that one wasn’t he.
Perfect place to build those multi million pound flats for second home owners that will never pay the extra council tax. They will get great sea views whilst the school children moved out of that school & probably be forced to go to a school in a neighbouring area (extra cars on the roads great for the environment & our already crumbling roads). As per normal this will be another mess, nothing about actually fixing the Islands basic infrastructure problems i.e roads, housing, investment or attracting people to come & work on the Island so some of the important infrastructure roles are filled like those at the hospital. If the Council doesn’t make the Island inviting we are all sunk.
15 minute cities will end the 2nd homes fiasco.
Look what’s happening in Thetford, Norfolk.
Already happened in Oxford.
Coming soon folks
