Motorists travelling on the Middle Road between Newport and Freshwater are experiencing delays following a road traffic collision this morning (Tuesday).
Emergency crews are responding to the incident, which has taken place approximately half a mile from Chessell in the Newport direction, in the vicinity of Calbourne Water Mill.
Island Echo has been told that cars travelling in both directions are turning around as a result of the crash, which occurred at approximately 10:45.
UPDATE @ 12:10 – It’s understood that 1 car has overturned in the single vehicle collision.
The road has now reopened.
UPDATE @ 12:40 – A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We were called at 10.55am today to Newport Road, Calbourne, following reports of a collision involving one car.
“The vehicle had overturned, and the road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.
“No injuries have been reported to us, and the road has now been reopened.”

The story hits the nail on the head.. ‘The Middle Road’!! I know people that won’t even use it because of the amount of Dangerous driving that takes place on that road. Come on ‘speed trap’ coppers, stop wasting Ur time preying on drivers in Shalfleet & try Ur hand at something a bit more challenging!
