A motor boat skipper misjudged an afternoon out on the Solent and ended up high and dry on the rocks at Thorness Bay.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to the northern shore near Cowes at 16:27.
Once on scene it was evident that a vessel – with 2 people on board – had gone hard aground on the rocks and mud.
A mud technician was deployed to ascertain the terrain for the team to head out to the area safely and obtain details and further plans.
With all occupants confirmed safe and well it was left and put at anchor to refloat with support from Cowes RNLI Lifeboat.
Ventnor CRT were also tasked to a boat aground on Ryde Sands at the same time as the incident at Newtown.
The yacht had called Mayday on VHF Channel 16. However, with the help of Ryde Inshore Rescue, it was ascertained that that all persons were safe and well and there was no damage to the vessel.
The vessel will await the next tide to float off.

A mud technician is usually involved in the oil industry and is a very skilled job.
What’s up with these sailors as they call them selfs always running aground either on Bembridge ledge or ryde sands or else where when I had my day boat first thing I did was buy a chart of the channels and sea bed to see where it was safe to moor up or to pass over and of course a tide table that way you should stay safe
I want to be a mud technician. What the …… is that all about ?
