The driver of an MG3 is being sought by Police after failing to stop at the scene of a crash in the rural village of Whitwell yesterday evening (Saturday).
The incident occurred at a set of temporary traffic lights on Ventnor Road at around 18:30, with the black MG3 allegedly failing to come to a stop as directed by the red light.
A male driver of the small hatchback is said to have collided with a green Nissan Serena before quickly making off in the direction of Niton.
The suspect vehicle was seen by members of the public with damage down the driver’s side and the front number plate hanging off.
Police were informed of the incident and enquiries are ongoing.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We were called at 6.34pm yesterday (16 April) to reports of a road traffic collision involving a MG and a green Nissan on Ventnor Road in Whitwell.
“Officers have launched an investigation and anyone with information is asked to call 101quoting 44220149632”.

I passed him on the military road yesterday at about 6:45pm. It would have been between Chale and Whale chine. He had damage down the drivers side of his car and the number plate was hanging down as per the picture. He was heading towards freshwater.
Surely it won’t be too long before this idiot is identified. IE have obscured the number plate but I’m sure the Police are aware of the owner by now. Hopefully he will be receiving a knock on his door anytime soon?
Perhaps he was another drunk driver, too pi**ed up to even notice the red light!

LE is the reg for Wimbledon, the car was first registered February 2020. Date of last V5C issued 27th September 2021. Taxed till 1st September 2022. Probably change of ownership in Sept 2021. Therefore owner/driver could be from anywhere and not necessarily from the island.
Reg number is LE69 MMV and the car came from Premier Ford give them a call they will give you all you need to know problem solved. Or make it easier and don’t blur the reg out and his face.
Well the car is taxed, not. No details held by dvla.. if I can find this on the gov.uk web site, surely the police can find more on an anpr search?!
You probably put the wrong reg number into DVLA. All details are there if you do things correctly.

It’s plain from the picture, albeit foggy! This is not an elderly person, but another – probably from the north island. , who has no clue how to drive on anything but a motorway! Get real you people, it’s speed and careless driving, combined with the ‘I don’t care’ attitude that cause accidents. Before we had the large influx of north islanders coming here to live the Island had the lowest rate of accidents in all of GB. Maybe it’s because careful driving and the realization that to navigate a corner you need to be travelling at a safe speed, not as though you were driving at Brands Hatch are no longer considered.
I thought it was only old people who come to live on the poor cousin to the mainland. Perhaps you are one of the the circa 30year olds who gets intimate with the odd tree. Maybe less accidents because of the low population in this area of the U.K.
