A 33-year-old man from Totland has been arrested after allegedly failing to stop at the scene of a crash in Whitwell on Saturday.
As first reported by Island Echo, a black MG3 collided into a green Nissan Serena at a set of temporary traffic lights on Ventnor Road.
The driver of the MG failed to stop at the scene and drove off in the direction of Niton – later being spotted on Military Road heading West.
The MG, which had damage down one side and its front number plate hanging off, was eventually located by Police on St Saviour’s Road in Totland.
Hampshire Constabulary has now confirmed that a 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop after a road accident, using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence and common assault.
Although no action is being taken in relation to the public order offence or the common assault, the driver has been reported for summons to failing to stop. He will now appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court in the coming weeks.

There you go moron driver – I said it was only a matter of time. Sounds like you are a low IQ individual.
Unfortunately you are wrong.
He is a scumbag who is clever.
Probably all drink/drugs now out of his system.
Now 3 points on his license and a £65 fine and maybe £95 costs.
ALL FOR FAILING TO STOP at a road traffic accident/incident.
And you think he’s stupid ?
Agree but he wouldn’t be the first to do that either.
Agree but nobody is saying that he was ! …???
Big loophole in the law. (Fact) and this proves it.
For some strange reason the police won’t even press charges for the (alleged) charge of abuse and commen assault.
Complete and utter BS.
Ps. the Wimbledon connection might point to the fact that he and his ELDERLY parents/gran parents can afford a descent solicitor !
DISGRACE !
Rubbish as the car was first registered in Wimbledon then had a change of keeper in Sept. Therefore it could have easily been purchased on the island by himself.
If there’s no corroborating evidence to be put to a court, or no complaint from a ‘victim’, do you think the old bill can do it on their behalf anyway??
I see a token wrist slap on the way. Guess we know where he lives now…
So much for the previous insulting comments aimed at more senior drivers. Funny how the majority of incidents are caused by the circa 30+ year olds. Even the spread of Covid has been caused mainly by the know all tricenarians.
24 hours and we now get the full story, glad they caught the individual, expect his picture will appear when he is charged.
Good heavens the ageist trolls will be screaming in frustration that the driver was only 33 years old.
It was his elderly grandparents that have bowled him out with a top notch solicitor !!!!!
(LOL)
what cricket match?
Sounds like you are suffering from the mental health issues excuse that people use. In your case for being an idiot!!!
and why is this scumbag not being prosecuted for threatening behaviour and assault, the police and judicial system wonder why they are held in complete contempt for not properly upholding the law.
If there’s no corroborating evidence to be put to a court, or no complaint from a ‘victim’, do you think the old bill can do it on their behalf anyway??
At least if next time he is seen on road driving a car he will get banned, car crushed etc. Won’t be able to afford Insurance after failing to stop and compensation claims from victims and then loosing his job. Yer he is clever – NOT!. Was not a little bump with door in carpark – he has written off two car’s .
I hope the poor victims sue the crap out of him, all the inconvenience and trauma they have to suffer because of an ignorant parasite like him..
Anyone else arrested/charged gets named ? Why has he not. Magistrates Court in coming weeks ?, Usually tell us the date ?. More me thinks going on for him at the moment.
Terrible should Ban him for 2 years that’s the only punishment for driving away from accident somebody could have been hurt but he will get away with a silly fine I bet
I would like all drunk drivers and other serious offenders speeders etc to have to retake their driving test
Yes, and ALL OLD PEOPLE…..!
Yawn!!!
starting with you, twat !!
Test should be retaken by all licence holders every five years regardless of age…..
Well thought out idea.I think not. Currently four month waiting list for new drivers test. How on earth are you going to re-test millions of people every five years.
I posted similar ages ago, many times. But said every ten years. Make it so a driving licence expires every ten years.. on birthday ! Pay for new test and licence.. Government could earn a few more quid and save lives too !!
Probably drunk then sobered up before the police found him.
Tin tong from Tooting… obvious you are a very young person with a lot of growing up to do. And sounds like you are a perfect driver… if old enough..!!
I hope the people that were in other car sue this driver.. can sue his insurance company.. !!
