Yarmouth Town Mayor Jamie Allen has resigned just 7 months into his tenure.
Jamie, the Mayor of Yarmouth, sent a letter to councillors announcing his resignation from Yarmouth Town Council on Tuesday (14th March). He was elected into office in September 2022, after serving as Deputy Mayor.
Mr Allen has confirmed his resignation but did not wish to comment further at this stage.
Brian Jacobs, clerk of Yarmouth Town Council, said Mr Allen has done a considerable amount of work for the town and Thorley and he will be very much missed.
Former Yarmouth Mayor, Councillor Steve Cowley said he was disappointed Jamie had resigned. According to Councillor Cowley, Mr Allen resigned as he did not agree with the rest of the town council over the future of the former Yarmouth Primary School building.
The town council has been successful in making the building an asset of community value and is forming plans to save the site from being turned into housing.
Councillor Cowley is heading up a steering group with other members of the council, and community involvement, to determine what the site should be.
Mr Allen, who runs a local boatyard, has been involved with the town council since 2017.

Someone who sticks to their principles is a rarity in this day and age especially if they are in an authoritative position.
I thought a mayorial role was non political.
No real surprise that the previous incumbent can’t resist being bumptious.
To paraphrase Thatcher, “It might appear I’m not pulling the levers but I shall be an ever present back-seat driver”.
You’d have thought the constant flow of brown envelopes would have been a draw to stay.
Well done for have the balls to give it a go…. Great to see young blood at least trying to bring west Wight in to current times…. However sadly bullied out. Well done Jamie !
We all know the Yarmouth School site is going to developers .. just a matter of time IWC have wanted it gone for years .. and Yarmouth Town Council are fooling themselves .. too little … too late … Yarmouth town RIP
The contract will be likely given to the Pinks of Captiva ruination company.
Very very close to other odd hand-shakers who matter.
Surprising where daddy’s ill earnt money can get you, thrown away in a tantrum.
Better the building be a community asset than housing.
